Science / technical writer (STW-04)
Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support with science / technical writers to work from our office in Lisse in close collaboration with ESA staff.Overview
The writer will be responsible for writing news articles and background information features about ESA science missions in the ESA Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration. The candidate will be required to provide typical news articles on a regular basis covering:- Important science results;
- Policy announcements and developments within the directorate;
- Background information on scientific goals of missions, key mission milestones, mission achievements, technical description of payloads, mission operations and technology developments;
Specific qualification requirements
University degree and several years work experience including in the field of astronomy/space science.All applicants must hold a valid passport from a country of the European Union.
The successful candidate must demonstrate:
- An excellent standard of written English;
- A well-rounded knowledge of space science (scientific and/or technical aspects);
- The ability to work on their own initiative;
- The ability to work to tight deadlines.
Location
The work will be performed at Aurora's office in the recently opened Crown Business Centre in Lisse. Trips to ESTEC and ESAC for direct interface and meetings at ESA are also expected.
Contract
- The selected candidate will receive excellent remuneration.
- Will be registered for both social security and tax in The Netherlands.
- The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 27 annual days holiday.
- Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included.
- Aurora can assist with relocation.
- The ideal start date is 1 April 2010.
- Employment is initially until 31 March 2011 with good opportunities to continue beyond this date.

Aurora will agree conditional employment terms and conditions with candidates before presenting their recruitment form to ESA on or before 12 February 2010.
