Software Engineer for INTEGRAL(SOE-43)
Aurora is an established and approved supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. There is a great opportunity to join the Aurora team supporting ESA at ESAC, near Madrid, for the following work. In particular Aurora currently has more than 10 staff supporting various missions at ESAC.Overview
The majority of the work is to support the INTEGRAL Science Operations Centre (ISOC) software systems. The work order consists primarily of provision of maintenance and enhancements to the existing ISOC software systems, excluding the INTEGRAL Science Archive, ISDA. Since elements of the ISOC software systems are common to other missions in the Astronomy Science Operations Division (SRE-OA), support may also need to be provided to other missions such as XMM-Newton.Tasks
- Maintenance and enhancements of software packages developed by the ISOC software team. The task may include development of new parts as well as still outstanding parts of the ISOC system as directed by the ISOC manager. The work package also includes the responsibility for maintenance of the external ICD’s and liaison with the providers of the external software to ISOC, i.e. ESOC, Flight Dynamics, other Science Operations Centres at ESAC and the OMC Principal Investigator.
- Support to the configuration control of all ISOC software in accordance with the procedures laid down in the Software Configuration Management plan (SCMP). This task also includes installation of ISOC software components within ISOC. These may be software updates from the ISOC or the installation of software or data products provided by external suppliers. The maintenance and improvement of software installation procedures and the associated documentation (the Software Transfer Document, STD) is also part of this work package.
- System administration. The task of installation and maintenance of ISOC hardware and basic software is within the overall activities of the ESAC system team. The task includes being the focal point for liaison with this team. This includes requesting hardware maintenance or basic software installation or updates and reporting hardware or network problems. The task includes being the data base administrator (DBA) for all ISOC ORACLE installations, with the exception of the archive one.
Specific qualification requirements
All applicants must hold a valid passport from a country of the European Union.University degree or equivalent in computer science or related fields
Specific knowledge is required in the following areas:
- Programming experience in Java within a professional environment
- Software planning, testing, quality control and documentation
- Experience with scripting languages (Perl and shell scripting)
- Development of Web applications (J2EE, XHMTL, CSS, …)
- Knowledge and experience of work with ORACLE data base technology
Location
The work will be performed at the ESAC, the European Space Astronomy Centre, at Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain.
Contract
The INTEGRAL mission is planned until end 2012 and we offer a permanent position.- You will be registered for both social security and tax in Spain.
- The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 27 annual days holiday.
