CFI Instruments engineer on MetOp Program (ENG-1-33)
Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our engineering support to ESA in the domain of Earth Observation (EO) for the following work.Overview
The post holder will be responsible for all technical aspects of a set of instruments provided by EUMETSAT to the MetOp Program and will work in close cooperation with the MetOp Instrument Engineer inside the System and Instruments Section.The Instrument set includes both optical and microwave instruments. The post is concerning the Customer Furnished Items (CFI). Duties ranges from supervise instrument integration and test activities, on-ground calibration, analysis of instrument performance, support to MetOp-B launch campaign and in-orbit verification activities. This includes in particular:
- Assessment of instrument functional and performance tests at instrument, payload module and satellite level;
- Support to instrument integration and tests, taking care of harmonization with MetOp schedule;
- Follow-up of instrument related NCRs and related investigations;
- Coordinating instrument specialists support as necessary for the AIT and reviews;
- Monitoring of the execution of instrument calibration including DRBs and handover meetings;
- Support to instrument in-orbit verification and commissioning activities simulations;
- Keeping a correct instrument configuration control by maintaining the relevant contractual technical documentation (ICD, CRMs etc…);
- Providing technical support in the evaluation of Contractual Change Notices;
- Support to MetOp-B launch campaign preparation and execution;
- Interfacing and coordinating with procurement agency and partner agency EUMETSAT;
- Participating to MetOp project reviews, coordinating Instrument related aspects;
- Providing backup support for other MetOp instruments on occasional basis.
Specific qualification requirements
All applicants must hold a valid passport from a country of the European Union and legally allowed to be employed in the Netherlands.- Applicants shall have a university degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering field
- at least 5 years of experience in development and AIV of space instruments either optical or microwave, including associated data processing.
- strong background in technical analysis and troubleshooting
- ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of the assigned tasks and schedule constraints.
- good communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.
- ability to cooperate both within the ESA team and also to the external parties to create success.
Location
The work will be performed on site at the European Space Technology and Research Centre (ESTEC) at Noordwijk, The Netherlands.Travel of short durations (several days) should also be anticipated.
Contract
- The selected candidate will receive excellent remuneration.
- Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands.
- The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 29 annual days holiday.

- Aurora can assist with relocation.
