Specific Tasks

Support to ESA projects and ESA technology development contracts in the field of automation and robotics, for the aspects of kinematics, motion control and mechatronics, specifically:

  • Requirement definition, engineering, analysis, validation and verification.
  • Assessment of Contract-produced documentation and deliverables.
  • Planning, execution and documentation of laboratory experiments including: development and maintenance of competence on robotic testing equipment and methods, preparation of engineering, technology and facility infrastructures, execution of tests and demonstration.
  • Contribution to the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the different units of the Automation and Robotics Laboratory, including: maintenance and servicing of the laboratory hardware and software, support in planning and implementing new procurements, maintenance of the laboratory inventory, implementation of the laboratory safety rules, implementation of the Laboratory Quality Management System.
Specific Qualification Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering (mechatronics, covering aspects from mechanical, electrical and computer engineering).
  • 4 years of relevant working experience.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage.
  • Practical experience in robot systems and related engineering tools (e.g. standard design, analysis and simulation s/w).
  • Experience in the design of mechanism and structures.
  • Experience in space project work.

Legal and Security Requirements

  • All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands.
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
  • Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident.


The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre (ESTEC) at Noordwijk, The Netherlands.


  • The selected candidate will receive good remuneration.
  • Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands.
  • The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
  • Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included.
  • Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially.
