Overview

The Cost engineer will carry out the following main tasks:

  • Preparation of cost estimates in support of ESA projects, based on technical, programmatic and procurement information;
  • Analyses of industrial contractor estimates and prices;
  • Participation to Tender Evaluation Boards and associated cost related panels;
  • Participation in ESA project reviews;
  • Support to industrial contracts negotiations;
  • Cost engineering tasks in Concurrent Design Facility studies;
  • Projects data collection, analysis, normalisation and entry into the existing Cost Engineering database;
  • Cost models development. This includes cost, schedule and risk aspects;
  • Cost Estimates including schedule and cost risk estimates;
  • Provision of Cost Estimate reports according to the ESA standards;
  • Accountability records consisting in comparing in a structured manner the external estimates and prices versus the internal estimates;
  • Benchmarking and calibrating internal and external cost models.

Specific qualification requirements

  • A University degree (MSc) from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
  • Ability to readily assimilate input data and providing timely output.
  • Ability to work independently and establish good working relations with relevant actors in ESA and Industry.
  • Reliability, objectivity, thoroughness and initiative.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ESA and its programmes and projects is an asset.
  • Broad knowledge of current developments in the space industry.
  • Basic economics knowledge.
  • System engineering skills are a benefit.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is mandatory; knowledge of another European language is an advantage.

Legal and Security Requirements

  • All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
  • Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident.

Location

The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre (ESTEC) at Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

Contract

  • The selected candidate will receive good remuneration  in line with ESA Job Class.
  • The offer will be initially a temporary contract valid until 31/12/2021.
  • Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands.
  • The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
  • Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included.
  • Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially.
  • Aurora contributes to a company pension scheme.
