Responsibilities

The Flight Dynamics Engineer (FDE) is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, and operational execution of all flight dynamics functions within the Mission Operations framework. The FDE ensures accurate orbit and attitude determination, safe and efficient maneuver planning, and reliable delivery of flight dynamics products throughout all mission phases—from Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) through routine operations and end-of-life. The main tasks will be the following:

  • Analysing flight dynamics requirements and conduct feasibility studies.
  • Usage of FDS tools and adaptation to the mission needs.
  • Participation in simulation and training campaigns for the Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP) and manouver phase of satellites using electric propulsion.
  • On-console activities during LEOP: processing and evaluation of telemetry and tracking data, determination and analysis of satellite attitude and orbit, planning of orbital manoeuvres, creation of operational products.
  • Routine and emergency satellite operations: investigation of anomalies, troubleshooting, control of flight dynamics processes and provision of products, investigation and evaluation of critical approaches with space debris and collision avoidance.
  • Provision of on-call to support LEOP and CAM.

Requirements

  • MSc in Aerospace or Space Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.
  • At least 3 years in flight dynamics operations.
  • Expertise in the field of orbit determination, orbit and attitude dynamics of satellites or collision avoidance.
  • Advanced level of English and excellent communication skills.
  • Full-time presence during core business hours.
  • On-call 24/7 during critical mission phases (e.g., launch, commissioning, orbit-raising, anomaly recovery, CAM).
  • Participation in rotating shifts when required for continuous operations support.

Legal and Security Requirements

  • Applicants must be legally allowed to work in the EU and hold a European citizenship. Evidence of eligibility will be required from candidates as part of the recruitment process.
  • Copy of passport and degree(s) certificate.
  • Good conduct certificate from the country where currently resident.
  • Furthermore, in view of the nature of the work, all potential employees will undergo stringent reference checks.

Location

The work will be performed from a Control Centre located in Rome from where several satellites composing a constellation will be operated.
