On behalf of the Italian subsidiary of the group – SSC Italy – we are helping to expand the team supporting the Galileo Control Centre Italy (GCC-I), in Fucino.

Tasks and Activities

The scope of the work include the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Support to AIV campaigns for the Galileo Ground Control Segment.
  • Definition of test documentation (including maintenance of the documentation).
  • Support to the preparation and execution of the Non-Regression / System Validation Test Campaigns.
  • Support OPS/L1 and L3 teams for problem management, system restoration, vulnerability management and handling of security incidents.
  • Provide inputs to Service Asset and Configuration Management activities, including maintaining the configuration via the provided tools.
  • Be able to investigate complex systems, create workarounds and/or fixes to recover nominal operations.
  • Support the design of end-to-end integrated maintenance and troubleshooting environments for Galileo systems.
  • Provision of inputs to the release strategy for minor and major evolutions of the Galileo infrastructure.

Skills and Experience

  • Engineering degree in a relevant technical field with minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Strong L2–L3 troubleshooting skills, including incident resolution, root cause analysis, and experience with ticketing tools (such as JIRA, ServiceNow, or Remedy). Candidates should also be familiar with IT systems, including web-based applications and server hardware.
  • Proven experience in system administration and solid knowledge of Linux environments are required. Knowledge of scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell) is required. Experience with Java or C++ for advanced debugging is a plus. A good understanding of network technologies is essential (covering TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, firewalls, and routing/switching). Knowledge of satellite or telecom protocols, as well as Galileo or other navigation ground segments, would be an advantage.
  • Experience in ground system AIV campaigns and ground system operations is highly valued. Candidates should also be comfortable working with development and testing environments, staging systems, CI/CD pipelines, virtualization (VMware, VirtualBox), and containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • The role requires knowledge of IT operations frameworks (such as ITIL) and experience in mission-critical environments. Candidates must show the ability to coordinate complex tasks across teams, strictly follow procedures, and still be creative enough to find workarounds if needed.
  • A high level of motivation and curiosity is expected, with interest in learning and working on new challenges. Candidates should also be willing to travel for trainings and workshops. An advanced level of English is mandatory, and at least a basic level of Italian should be learned if not yet mastered.

  • Applicants must be legally allowed to work in the EU and hold a European citizenship. Evidence of eligibility will be required from candidates as part of the recruitment process.
  • Copy of passport and degree(s) certificate.
  • Good conduct certificate from the country where currently resident.
  • Furthermore, in view of the nature of the work, all potential employees will undergo stringent reference checks.

Location

The work will be performed at the Fucino Space Centre in Italy.
