Responsibilities

The ILS Engineer ensures that all spacecraft systems, ground segments, and mission operations infrastructure are designed, maintained, and supported for maximum reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle efficiency. This role bridges engineering design, operations, and logistics planning to guarantee mission readiness and long-term sustainability of space assets. The main tasks will be the following:

  • Develop and implement ILS plans for spacecraft, launch systems, and ground support equipment to ensure long-term operational supportability.
  • Define maintenance concepts, spare parts strategies, and reliability/availability metrics for both space and ground systems.
  • Coordinate with design, manufacturing, and mission operations teams to optimize supportability early in the system lifecycle.
  • Manage the configuration and documentation of logistics data, maintenance procedures, and technical publications.
  • Support failure analysis, corrective actions, and obsolescence management to ensure continuous operational capability.

Requirements

  • MSc in Aerospace or Space, Telecommunication Engineering or other relevant studies.
  • At least 2 years as ILS Engineer or similar role.
  • Lifecycle Management expertise, Technical Integration skills, ability to contextualize inputs from different teams.
  • Advanced level of English and excellent communication skills.
  • Must be available to support mission-critical operations, including off-nominal or emergency situations (may require shift work or on-call availability).
  • Occasional travel to integration, launch, or ground station sites for support activities.
  • Capability to work in high-security or controlled environments (e.g., ITAR/EAR or ESA security clearance may be required).

Legal and Security Requirements

  • Applicants must be legally allowed to work in the EU and hold a European citizenship. Evidence of eligibility will be required from candidates as part of the recruitment process.
  • Copy of passport and degree(s) certificate.
  • Good conduct certificate from the country where currently resident.
  • Furthermore, in view of the nature of the work, all potential employees will undergo stringent reference checks.

Location

The work will be performed from a Control Centre located in Rome from where several satellites composing a constellation will be operated.
