Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support to ESA in the domain of SCI – Missions and Research Activities. We are looking for a Phase A/B Payload and System Engineer to support the SCI-F (Payload and System Engineering Activities), in the Directorate of Science (D/SCI).

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Support to Phase 0, A, B1 studies for future science missions (Cosmic Vision, Voyage 2050) for system engineering tasks and with a specific emphasis on the payloads
  • Support to S-Mission and F-Mission studies as required
  • Monitor the progress of the instruments design, including developments of critical technologies
  • I/F management between S/C and Instrument by e.g. keeping the EID-A/PDD up to date
  • Support to internal assessment studies (Phase 0/ CDF) covering instrument and system aspects
  • Support to the evaluation of future Science missions covering instrument and system aspects
  • Review of Science instruments/missions as part of the formal Review process (PRR, SRR, PDR)
  • Support to implementation of the technology activities

It is expected that the Payload & System Engineer will support reviews, working groups and meetings, examples are:

  • Specific working groups
  • Future mission review panels
  • Project review panels

Specific qualification requirements

  • A Master or Phd degree in Physics, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in payload design and development activities.

Excellent knowledge and Proficiency in:

  • Requirement engineering (flow down of requirements, definition of I/F’s …)
  • Knowledge of Science payloads for planetary/plasma missions
  • Knowledge of instrument system aspects and integration into spacecraft (mass, power, thermal, radiation, shielding …)
  • Implementation and management of ESA technology developments
  • Office tools
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively, autonomously and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment, defining and implementing solutions in line with team and individual objectives, as well as project deadlines.
  • A very good working knowledge of spoken and written English is essential.

Legal and Security Requirements

  • All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
  • Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident.

Location

The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre (ESTEC) at Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

Contract

  • The selected candidate will receive good remuneration  in line with ESA Job Class.
  • Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands.
  • The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
  • Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included.
  • Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially.
  • Aurora contributes to a company pension scheme.
