Specific Tasks

The specific tasks of the post holder include contributing to the tasks of the Technology Coordination and Planning, which include:

  • Piloting the Technology Harmonisation process at European level leading to roadmaps agreed by ESA Programmes, Technical Domain leaders, Member States and industry and monitoring the implementation.
  • Providing a secretariat function for the Technology Harmonisation Advisory Group and Technology Advisory Working Group.
  • Establishing the European Space Technology Master Plan.
  • Maintaining a database of industrial capabilities consistent with harmonisation dossiers and roadmaps, and in coordination with D/IPL.
  • Supporting industrial policies relating to technologies.
  • Interfacing with the EU for technology related matters and coordinating the Agency support to EU technology programmes.
  • Leading the coordination with the European Commission and European Defence Agency of critical space technologies for European non-dependence.
  • Maintaining the end-to-end process for management of technology development within ESA, providing the secretariat function to different working groups, and evolving it as required to improve efficiency and use.
  • Evaluating technology development results at aggregate Agency level.

In addition, providing support:

  • To the running and evolution of the European Space Technology Harmonisation process.
  • For the preparation of the European Space Technology Master Plan.
  • To the running and evolution of ESA wide coordination processes on Space Technology.
  • For the management of the Entity Capability Mapping database.
  • For the update of the ESA Generic Product Tree and ESA Technology Tree.

Qualification Requirements

  • Master degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering or other relevant
    discipline.
  • A background in a wide range of technologies relevant to space as well as experience in space projects and technology development is required.
  • Familiarity with Technology R&D processes would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Programme/Project management and controlling methods and tools.
  • Autonomy, authority and ability to interface with ESA staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesise complex information.
  • Good verbal and written communications.
  • Rigor, commitment and reliability in the execution of the assigned tasks.
  • Proactive attitude to solving problems, identify priority actions and to handle high workload.
  • Familiarity with modern electronics office automation tools (e.g. Microsoft Office suite).
  • Proficient in the English language (spoken and written, knowledge of other languages is an asset).

Legal and Security Requirements

  • All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands
  • Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA.
  • Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident.

Location

The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre (ESTEC) at Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

Contract

  • The selected candidate will receive good remuneration in line with ESA Job Class.
  • Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands.
  • The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
  • Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included.
  • Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially.
  • Aurora contributes 15,4% of pensionable salary to a company pension scheme and employees can optionally make additional contributions.
