“Sunshine in Nosy Komba” Tournament

Aurora was one of the sponsors for the “Sunshine in Nosy Komba” Tournament organised at the end of April at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC). Tournaments for tennis, squash and football were organized. Participants had also the opportunity to take part in all kinds of fun activities, such a lottery, gastronomy fair, live performances, workshops and much more!

This event was organised by the “Sunshine in Nosy Komba initiative”, which had the support of some Aurora’s employees. The initiative was created in 2011 by ESTEC employees to support the global development project in Nosy Komba, with projects on Education, Health care and Sustainable development.

For the last four years, “Sunshine in Nosy Komba” has been helping more than 350 children get access to education with the funds raised through the tournament. This year the team managed to raise a total of 16.886 €, which will be used to:

• Pay 11 teachers and keep the 3 schools running (kindergarten, primary and secondary school) for the next year and start as well a program of night classes for adults!
• Cover running costs of the school canteen and cafeteria to improve the quality of the food given to the students everyday.
• Support the local production of furniture, namely to continue the refurbishment of the school dorms. More than 80 kids from other villages or orphans live in the school campus.
• Contribute to the construction of an incubator for local companies
